CSA Heritage Chrysanthemums

Our giant heritage chrysanthemums are grown in a way that is rare in the United States, following the traditional Japanese method developed to produce blooms of extraordinary size, refinement, and presence.

Rather than encouraging many flowers per plant, we train each chrysanthemum to concentrate its energy into a small number of perfect blooms - just one per stem—through careful timing, selective disbudding, staking, and patient attention over many months.

This approach favors discipline over speed, and structure over abundance. The result is a collection of flowers that feels almost architectural: immense incurved blooms with densely layered petals, dramatic spiders that radiate with movement, and sculptural quills that seem drawn rather than grown.

Our collection spans a wide range of forms and colors, each variety chosen not for novelty, but for its ability to hold line, proportion, and grace at a monumental scale.

These chrysanthemums are renowned for their longevity. It is not uncommon for a bloom to last two weeks or more once cut, which is why we offer them as a two-week CSA - an uncommon model, but one perfectly suited to this flower.

Each week, members receive five magnificent stems, substantial enough to stand alone yet varied enough to invite thoughtful arranging. With a bit of seasonal luck, these blooms could carry us into Thanksgiving, when gardens are long finished but the chrysanthemum remains steadfast. There is something deeply satisfying about a flower that arrives just as the year turns inward—generous, enduring, and often spectacular—offering beauty not in a rush, but in a long, steady presence.
